
In January 2014 Christianity Today featured an article on the surprising effects of 19th century missionaries on the culture of the areas they served in. The 19th century missionaries for those who do not know have received a bad rep for colonialism. The story was written by a woman who grew up on the mission field.
This interview of the author is a follow-up to that story. The back story is interesting and shows a free different sides of missions.

I guess I was never aware that the missionaries were accused of colonialism. I always assumed missionaries had a good profile. Still it goes to show that where Christ is preached there is redemption of souls and culture.
It’s usually intended to insult missionaries and is used by those who think we should leave cultures as they are. Problem is, things like malaria and high infant mortality rates make it impossible to ignore. Not to mention the gospel which is of primary importance!
