I read a book a while ago maybe three or four years called reading the Bible for what it’s worth and it had a similar idea. Are you familiar with that book? Is it the same idea? Sounds a little like it.

    • Michah, I think you are referring to Gordon Fee’s book. If so, yes I have read it. This is similar in the sense that the authors desire to explain the background of each book. However, What The New Testament Authors Really Cared About is arranged more like a textbook and focuses on the themes of each book throughout the description. It really is a wonderful book!

Mmhmm. Totally new to the Bible so yeah. I think I’ll be picking this up. Grew up going to church so I know about all the do good avoid evil and go to confession stuff but never really read it to be honest. Heard lots of it being read but I can’t tell you which bookshould are new or old or where to find anything. So yeah it’s time to start.

  3. Krystal then you need a different church don’t you dare go back to the one that never had you read your Bible! When I first stepped into a church it was about a year or maybe a year and a half ago they said I would never grow in my faith unless I spent time taking in the word. I thought they were full of it but sure enough after a few months I was back into my old life again but this time I hated what I was doing! So I started reading my Bible. Just a little bit but I was reading it. It makes a difference. This year I’m going to try to read all of it. Even if I don’t make it having a challenge will make me more determined. Find a good church and Christian friends who also want to read the Bible and keep each other on tract. OK hun?

Oh. Thank you Jen lol! I don’t think I would go back to the church I grew up in. It turns out Catholic priests don’t limit their victims to boys 🙁 Now that I have a baby I am never stepping foot in a Catholic church again. Not if it means she would have to experience what I did. Not ever.

  5. Oh seeet Krystal I’m so sorry to hear that 🙁 I understand a little but mine was a neighbor and not a priest. It’s so hard I know. My cousin who was living with us went into herself after he did it to her and became very quiet and stopped caring about her appearance. I think she is homeless now. I only the other hand reacted the opposite by trying to make myself prettier or what I thought was prettier. I went crazy with my body and just gave myself freely to anyone. Especially older and married men because I wanted to be the one to have power over them and ruin their lives if I could. So hard I know. But I’m glad you are back at a church and hopefully one that isn’t known for molesting children then covering it up. You should get this book I think and just use it to read the Bible a lot. My friend at church she told me there’s so many good books on grace but none as good as the bible. I believe her. But this book would help to understand the Bible it seems like. Oh I’m praying for you Krystal!
