Day By Day

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He Whose Name is Counselor and Power;
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in every tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

  1. Hiya! I herd this song for the 1st time last week in church and I thought of you and Jami and your kids. Isn’t it funny how that happens? How are ya? I miss hearing from you. You need to write an update post. You know. About how you are feeling and maybe some wisdom about God. I’m doin ok just messing with different jobs right now. So I know its prolly early and all but I was thinkin of maybe a mission trip. You know like in Mexico or something. My church is getting a group together to go to Mexico in the spring and I’m really thinking I could do it. So you voting tomorrow? I’m totally voting for Palin and that old goat that shes hanging with. ummmm thats all I guess. Nice to hear from you.

  2. Thanks Serena. The song has a special place in my heart for many reasons, but the words are very powerful. By the way, I do not think it is too early to go on a missions trip. If God is calling then the appropriate response would be to drop everything and go. The more you second guess yourself, the more you risk becoming like the rich young ruler who met Jesus but was not willing to give everything up for eternal life. Jami and I will be praying for you.

  3. wa’sup? How are you? I herd about Kevin. Sorry to hear that man. This song makes sense in that light. He was a good man and I know how close you two were. Is his funeral here or in Atlanta?

    I have to confess I have never heard this one. I’ll have to find it somewhere. The lyrics are very good. Profound.
