God’s Sovereignty in Tragedy

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE DETAILS.

Trevin Wax wrote a good commentary piece over at Religion News Service describing the theology of Debbie Dills- the woman God used to spot and turn in the S.C. Killer this week.

(RNS) The woman who spotted, reported, and followed the vehicle driven by alleged Charleston, S.C., shooter Dylann Roof says God was working through her.

There are a lot of questions that many of us have about why God would allow this in the first place. Wax correctly shows how God’s leading of Dills to turn in the killer is an example of God restraining evil. The obvious question is why was it not restrained in the first place? Why allow the atrocity? Those are questions which we may never know the answer to, but we know that God is good and he works all things together for the good of those who love him. All things. Yes, even the killing we saw this week. One thing is clear. The killing of Christians in their church this week has resulted in a response unlike any we have seen in recent years. The world is watching to see how Christians respond.

Such a shame. This one really made me stop and reassess life. So senseless. I’m glad the passerby recognized him and called the police. Would have been better if someone in the church had a gun. Maybe there would have been less deaths. Glad the lady gave God credit
