Steven Lawson discusses the necessity of preaching God’s wrath. There appear to be two extreme errors when it comes to preaching God’s wrath. One type neglects to preach it altogether. The second type preaches nothing but wrath. To avoid both errors it is important to acknowledge the purpose of preaching God’s wrath- to confront unbelievers (or believers who have fallen into sin) with the law of God which reveals God’s will and exposes their inability. This type of preaching is directed at the unrepentant and those who trust in their own righteousness. To the bruised reed however, we preach the glorious news of the gospel- That God, in Christ has reconciled us to Himself and credits His Son’s righteousness to us.
