I appreciated reading this post by Erik Raymond today. The question of how to make Christ more appealing is upside down. The fact is, to those who are His, Christ is appealing. They hear his voice and follow Him because He is appealing to them. To alter Christ’s image is to appeal to those who are not truly His sheep and will create false converts.

Thank you! I have been trying to say this to our pastor for so long now I’m worn out. Everything they do is focused on making Jesus relevant, cool, and attractive. So much so that you wouldn’t recognize him. But those who were given to Jesus as his sheep hear his voice and follow. No need to make him cool to those who would never accept him anyway. Just show him as he is and those who accept him as he is are those who are truly his sheep.
That was such a good post! He is right. If we try to make Christ more appealing we are giving him a makeover and then can we say we have really given Christ to anyone? Not if we had to make him over first!
