I really enjoyed reading this post by R. Scott Clark over at The Heidelblog. Much of Evangelicalism has mistaken a decision made during an alter call as conversion- even if that person continues in impenitent sin. The scriptures however paint an entirely different picture. A person who is truly converted will not live in impenitent sin. Read, Heidelberg 87- The impenitent Cannot Be Saved

I assume by this you mean they will repent of their sin when they sin. Not that they will no longer sin. If that is what is meant then yes, that is the sign of conversion. A converted person will be tormented by their sin and will hate it and thus repent. Doesn’t mean right away. Some times we are entrapped by our sin.
Correct Margaret. Those who are saved are those who recognize their great sin and turn from it. However, as Clark pointed out, the turning is not the cause of their salvation but the evidence of it.
